“¿Un agente realista en el espacio sur-andino?: Juan Pío de Tristán y Moscoso durante la guerra de independencia. 1811-1813”

Abstract

En atención a los estudios transnacionales relativos a la guerra y la Revolución en el espacio sur-andino, el artículo tiene como objetivo el análisis de la trayectoria de un actor perteneciente al bando realista, el Mayor General Pío Tristán y su misión de ocupar los territorios pertenecientes al ex virreinato del Río de la Plata, actuando así como posible agente del bando del Rey, a fin de sofocar la Revolución iniciada en Buenos Aires en mayo de 1810. La metodología se basa en la complementación de fuentes pertenecientes a diferentes colecciones documentales y las existentes en archivos históricos de los territorios involucrados. A través de este estudio de caso, se pretende profundizar en la discusión historiográfica centrada en la trama de la guerra de independencia, desde la perspectiva de aquellos actores identificados con la causa del Rey y sus estrategias a la hora de involucrarse en este conflicto que duraría más de quince años.

In response to transnational studies onwar and revolution in the southern Andean space, this article aims to analyze the trajectory of an actor belonging to the royalist side, Major General Pío Tristán, and his mission to occupy the territories belonging to the former viceroyalty of the Río dela Plata, thus acting as a possible agent of the King's side, in order to suppress the Revolution that began in Buenos Aires in May 1810. The methodology is based on the complementation of sources belonging to different documentary collections and those existing in historical archives of the territories involved. Through this case study, we intend to deepen the historiographical discussion centered on the plot of the war of independence, from the perspective of those actors identified with the King's causeand their strategies when getting involved in this conflict that would last more than fifteen years.
