Abstract
This text introduces the reader to various ways of experiencing time and space in the coastal maritime environment of Punta del Este- Maldonado, as well as in nearby cities and towns on the East coast of Uruguay. Through a long-term ethnographic investigation involving surfers, biologists, and artisanal fishermen, I aimed to capture the uniqueness of the coastal maritime environment —without conceptualizing it as a space exceptionally different from others— and to understand it through the trajectories of different social actors. In this publication, I analyze some of the continuities found that cut across social practices, which reveal the maritimity, understood as multiple dimensions of human activities occurring within the environment. Additionally, I introduce reflections on the theoretical and methodological contributions resulting from the process of ethnographic research and analysis of various social practices from an epistemological perspective that seeks to transcend the division between nature and culture.
