Abstract
In this paper we will address the role of culture as a tool for social transformation. Specifically, we will study the implications of cultural events in disadvantaged areas and the transformation that these spaces and communities suffer from their realization. We will delve into the repercussions that the centrality effect that encompasses cultural events causes in the community and how citizen participation is transformed as a result of these events. To carry out this study we have selected the area of Tres Barrios - Amate through the Santa Misión Evangelizadora de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder that took place in Seville in autumn 2021. This event was not only historic because it was held in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Spain, but it was also the first mass event that took place after the declaration of health alert because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, we will also investigate how internal dynamics, social networks and intra-community interaction have been modified. To carry out this work we have counted on the participation of several residents of the area, in addition to the main social actors who have taken part in the event with which we have made several discussion groups. We also wanted to interview citizens from other parts of the city who visited the area during the days of the event to assess how the perception of the area has changed.
