Abstract

Constructivism and the mutual shaping of technology and society are approaches within the field of science and technology studies (STS) that offer a new way of understanding technology and its interaction with society. The introduction of gender studies into this framework has enriched the field with the analysis of the mutually constitutive relationship between gender relations and technologies. This paper explores the application of these perspectives to the context of social networks in relation to gender analysis. Through a systematic literature review, it delves into how gender is integrated into research, the locations of analysis and the most productive methodologies for examining the intersections between users and platforms. This work contributes to the field by providing a synthesis of current studies and pointing out opportunities and directions for future research and for the development of more mindful and more equitable technologies.
