Una especulación ficticia sobre el concepto de ser humano en la era tecnológica: Onda cerebral de Poul Anderson

Abstract

La ciencia ficción es un género prolífico con potencialidad crítico-constructiva respecto a la noción y posición del ser humano en relación con el resto de seres vivos. El hecho de conformar historias especulativas sobre futuros probables en los que la tecnología ha avanzado permite introducir y profundizar sobre temas éticos, morales y jurídicos que son de plena actualidad. Más allá de las novelas que se han asociado con el movimiento transhumanista, me interesan aquellas que dentro del género reconstruyen el concepto humanista de sujeto, sin separarse totalmente de él. Entre ellas me parece relevante Onda Cerebral (Brain Wave) de Poul Anderson, una ficción excepcional para cuestionar la características definitorias y privilegiadas del ser humano frente al resto de seres vivos y conducir a la necesaria reflexión sobre los derechos. Hay dos temas significativos que quiero destacar de esta obra: el primero es nuestra sobrevaloración de la inteligencia racional y la ilusoria autosuficiencia moral humanas y, por consiguiente, la defensa del papel tan relevante de las emociones y la forzosa autonomía moral relacional que nos define; el segundo se refiere al cuestionamiento de nuestra posición privilegiada en el mundo ya que somos seres frágiles o vulnerables, seres sintientes que sufren como resto de animales. Es precisamente esa vulnerabilidad lo que hace generar lazos de empatía y compasión con el resto de animales que sienten como nosotros, y lo que puede ayudar a replantear el sentido de la Justicia social y nuestra manera de vida en comunión con la naturaleza.

Science fiction is a prolific genre with critical-constructive potential regarding the notion and position of humanity in relation to other living beings. the ability to create speculative stories about probable futures in which technology has advanced allows for the exploration of ethical, moral, and legal issues that are highly relevant today. beyond the novels commonly associated with the transhumanist movement, those that reconstruct the humanist concept of the subject without completely detaching from it are particularly interesting. Among these, and setting aside the most frequently analyzed and studied works, Poul Anderson’s brain wave emerges as a significant fiction for questioning the defining and privileged characteristics of humanity in relation to other living beings, prompting essential reflection on rights. two significant themes can be highlighted in this work: the first is the overvaluation of rational intelligence and the illusory moral self-sufficiency of humans, and consequently, the defense of the crucial role of emotions and the necessary relational moral autonomy that defines human beings. the second theme concerns the questioning of humanity’s privileged position in the world, as we are, in fact, fragile and vulnerable beings, sentient entities that suffer like other animals. It is precisely this vulnerability that fosters bonds of empathy and compassion with other sentient beings, which can help reframe the notion of social justice and our way of life in communion with nature.
