Julio Antonio Mella, el Crimen del Imperialismo

Abstract

Julio Antonio Mella fue un revolucionario cubano, fundador del Partido Comunista Cubano y miembro de su primer Comité Central. Personificó uno de los mayores símbolos de lucha y resistencia en toda Latinoamérica. Su huelga de hambre contra el General Machado y su incursión, en el exilio, en la dirección del Partido Comunista Mexicano lo hicieron precursor del movimiento revolucionario de 1959 en Cuba. En este artículo se pretende demostrar cómo el uso del relato sobre su asesinato contribuyó a proyectar una imagen icónica que fue retomada por las luchas populares posteriores en el ámbito de América Latina y el Caribe. Julio Antonio Mella was a Cuban revolutionary, founder of the Cuban Communist Party and a member of its first Central Committee. His hunger strike, his determination in the resistance against General Machado and his exile in Mexico, made him a precursor of the revolutionary movement of 1959. He embodied an outstanding symbol of struggle and resistance in Latin America. This shows how the narratives about his assassination contributed to his iconic image, which was later revisited during other popular struggles in Latin America and the Caribbean
