Abstract
The Christmas liturgical cycle in the female monasteries of the Royal Audience of Quito was characterized by the strong presence of images in the different devotional practices. The prayers and images functioned as a unit in these practices, despite not having been analysed by art historiography in terms of their uses and cultural functions. In addition, these images have only been included in historiographical discourses when they have artistic quality; for this reason, many have remained unpublished. Others have remained unpublished because they are in use as devotional objects or, in some cases, they are not first-rate works of art. This study analyzes "The Child of the O" in relation to the O Antiphons sung at Vespers from December 17 to December 23.
