| dc.description.abstract | For many years now, debates about American hegemony and its supposed decline have circulated the academic world. Through a novel theoretical framework, this monograph examines the complex interplay between the internal and external social forces responsible for the evolving ‘nature’ of US hegemony, from its “establishment” in the 1940s through to 2018. As such, it analyses the different stages of stability, crisis and restructuring of US hegemony under the various occupants of the White House, from Roosevelt to Trump. China's spectacular ascent is undoubtedly of great historical/global importance, but is it a potential “world hegemon”? The monograph aims to shed light on this question by analysing the economic, geopolitical, military and cultural significance of China's rise and how this affects, and in turn is affected by, US hegemony | |
