Abstract
La ejecución de obras de platería con fines cultuales ha sido habitual a lo largo de la historia del cristianismo, cumpliendo funciones determinadas dentro de la celebración litúrgica, o bien siendo destinadas al enriquecimiento de los ajuares de las imágenes devocionales. Desde el siglo XVII, el palio fue adquiriendo relevancia en el culto externo, especialmente en las procesiones de vírgenes dolorosas, convirtiéndose en una de las tipologías de mayor éxito y en los que la plata alcanza un gran protagonismo. Por tanto, trataremos de comprobar la importancia del noble metal en la evolución de estos conjuntos, centrándonos en la ciudad de Sevilla, lugar en el que el uso del palio resulta frecuente dentro de la celebración de los desfiles procesionales.
The execution of works of silverware for cultic purposes has been common throughout the history of Christianity, fulfilling specific functions within the liturgical celebration, or being destined to the enrichment of the trousseau of devotional images. Since the 17th century, the pallium has been acquiring relevance in the external worship, especially in the processions of sorrowful virgins, becoming one of the most successful typologies and in which the silver reaches a great protagonism.
