Abstract
The objective of this degree proyect is to visualize the reality of women with intellectual functional diversity who have exercised maternity or intend to do so. Faced with the few studies on this group and their right to maternity, it is intended to show to women coup with the numerous barriers and stereotypes, through an intersectoral approach. After the bibliographical review and reading of the many international and national laws that defend reproductive rights and motherhood as a goal to be achieved in our societies, there is a tendency towards the reproduction of situations of discrimination and marginalization, perpetuated by the family overprotection and professional practices such as coercive abortion or forced sterilization. To know the vision and the self-perception of women with intellectual functional diversity in relation to the exercise of motherhood, several interviews have been carried with a woman of this group in order to be able to carry out the life history technique, under the phenomenological approach and the bibliographic method. After analyzing these interviews, and making a comparison with the few authors who have studied the topic, we affirm that this life history is an example of overcoming and a reflection about the need to establish measures and channels for the facilitation of supports, within the present paradigm of independent life.
