La imagen de la niña en la pintura española del período de entre siglos XIX-XX: modelo de feminidad católica.

Abstract

Partiendo del análisis de algunas obras pictóricas el presente estudio versa sobre la imagen de la niña en el proceso de feminización de la religión en España, en la etapa que discurre entre los siglos XIX y XX. Iniciamos nuestro discurso abordando el concepto de feminización de la religión, que sin ser exclusivo del caso español adquirió gran peso en nuestro país como forma de resistencia de la Iglesia católica frente al Estado liberal y a la creciente secularización de la sociedad. En tal proceso la figura de la mujer de la élite social fue clave, como defensora de los valores cristianos, pero también la educación de las niñas que habrían de asumir en un futuro dicha función. La pintura coetánea permite vislumbrar este fenómeno; más allá de su valor artístico, se erige en testimonio histórico de una época de profundas transformaciones sociales.

Based on the analysis of selected pictorial works, this study examines the image of the girl within the process of the feminization of religión in Spain during the transitional period between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The discussion begins by addressing the concept of the feminization of religion, which—while not exclusive to Spain—gained particular significance in the country as a form of resistance by the Catholic Church to the liberal state and the increasing secularization of society. Within this process, elite women played a key role as defenders of Christian values, as did the education of girls, who were expected to assume this role in the future. Contemporary painting allows this phenomenon to be visualized; beyond its artistic value, it stands as a historical testament to a period of profound social transformation.
