Abstract
This article presents and critically analyzes the theses of buenismo concerning the legitimacy of unilateral secession, concluding that they suffer from very significant problems. To this end, it offers a brief synthesis of the conception of nations, Spain, and its historical development according to philosophical materialism. Once the issue is framed, and as its main contribution, the principal ideas formulated from this perspective are systematized into six arguments, each examined individually. The paper closes with a reflection on the relationship between Spanish nationalism and buenismo, as well as with a general assessment of the political thought of the Oviedo School.
