Abstract
El objeto fundamental de este artículo es presentar un balance general de los diversos impactos que las multinacionales españolas están provocando en América Latina, desde que comenzaron a instalarse en la región a principios de la década del noventa del siglo pasado hasta la actualidad. En primer lugar, se presenta el origen del fenómeno multinacional español y su evolución histórica. A continuación, se señalan las características principales de este tipo de empresas. Posteriormente, el capítulo central del texto se ocupa de identificar los impactos múltiples que estas grandes corporaciones generan, destacándose entre otros la mercantilización de servicios públicos, la pérdida de soberanía, la practica del lobby, la falta de transparencia, la criminalización social, el deterioro medioambiental y la vulneración de derechos laborales y de los pueblos indígenas.
The main goal of this paper is to present a general balance about the multiple impacts Spanish multinational are causing in all Latin America, since the beginnig of their settlement in the region in the early nineties of the last century, until now. First, we present the origin of the Spanish multinational phenomenon and its historical evolution. Then the main characteristics of these businesses are indicated. Below, the central chapter is concerned with identifying the multiple impacts that these big corporations generate, highlighting, among others, the commodification of public services, the loss of sovereignty, the practice of lobbying, lack of transparency, social criminalization, environmental damage and violation of labor rights and infringement of the rights of indigenous peoples.
