El antiguo tesoro y el ciprés de la catedral de Mérida, Yucatán. Una aproximación a partir de las fuentes de archivo

Abstract

En este artículo se abordan algunos aspectos relacionados con el culto y la renovación de los espacios litúrgicos de la catedral de Mérida, Yucatán, en el siglo XVIII, coincidentes con el proceso de consolidación del clero secular en la diócesis. Asimismo, a partir del estudio de documentos del archivo capitular, se hace un análisis de las piezas de plata y oro que formaron parte del tesoro catedralicio y de la construcción del ciprés altar del templo en los últimos años del periodo virreinal.

This article takes into consideration some aspects connected to the worship and the renovation of the liturgical spaces of the Cathedral in Merida, Yucatan during the XVIII century, in relation with the process of consolidation of the secular clergy in the diocese. In addition, starting off with the study of documents in the Capitular Archives, there is an analysis of the silver and golden pieces that were part of the cathedral treasure and the construction of the cypress/altar of the temple in the last years of the viceroyal period.
