El azul en la liturgia hispana: los ternos de la Purísima

Abstract

Los conjuntos de ornamentos litúrgicos destinados a la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción constituyen un capítulo importante de las artes textiles suntuarias españolas de los siglos XIX y XX. Se analiza, por tanto, la génesis y el desarrollo que fundamentó este privilegio español de usar el color azul en el contexto de la liturgia occidental y de las propias tradiciones españoles en relación a esta tonalidad cromática que fue, como es bien sabido, prohibida por el Concilio de Trento para uso litúrgico.

The sets of liturgical vestments for the feast of the Immaculate Conception constitute an important chapter of the Spanish sumptuary textile arts of the 19th and 20th centuries. The genesis and development of this Spanish privilege of using the color blue in the context of the Western liturgy and of the Spanish traditions themselves in relation to this chromatic tonality, which was, as is well known, forbidden by the Council of Trent for liturgical use, is therefore analyzed.
