Abstract
The extraordinary quality of Françoise Duparc’s painting contrasts with the little information we have, to date, about her life and work. Some notarial documents provide information about his parents’ marriage, her baptism and the inventory of her assets. Besides, we know about her inclusion in catalogues of works exhibited in London on two occasions, in 1763 and 1766, and her appointment as a member of L’ Académie de peinture de Marseille. In addition, we have some ancient sources that narrate the main milestone of her life: her training with Van Loo and her amazing itinerancy through different European courts. But, above all this, we have five magnificent paintings whose exceptional quality places her among the best portrait painters of France in the second half of the 18th century.
