Abstract
In this work an unpublished piece of silverware from the Orihuela Cathedral’s artistic collection is studied: the Cruz de los Conjuros. This unique work is the material expression of the beliefs around the power of the Holy Cross in dramatic moments such as the epidemics, floods or droughts that devastated the Valencian South during the Modern Age. Rituals, ceremonies and spells framed in prayers, conjurations and blessings of terms that were intended to achieve divine mercy through the intercession of saints, martyrs, the True Cross or the Virgin were carried out in tone to it.
