El mobiliario de concha de perla de Nueva España en las colecciones de Lima en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

En la última década, los estudios sobre el mobiliario virreinal peruano han recibido atención en interesantes artículos, catálogos y libros especializados. En este sentido, el presente trabajo aborda el caso particular de los muebles de concha de perla de Nueva España en las colecciones limeñas del siglo XVIII. Si bien el enfoque se basa en la documentación primaria de los inventarios de bienes, trataremos de contextualizar esta información con el panorama histórico del mobiliario peruano. Lejos de proponer un estudio minucioso y exhaustivo, nuestro principal objetivo será resolver los interrogantes plan- teados por la historiografía y repensar la problemática de estas piezas en el marco de la interacción comercial de los dos virreinatos.

In the last decade, studies on Peruvian viceregal furniture have received attention in interesting articles, catalogs and specialized books. In this sense, the present work deals with the particular case of the concha de perla furniture from New Spain in the Lima collections of the eighteenth century. Although the approach is based on the primary documentation of the inventories of goods, we will try to contextualize this information with the historical panorama of Peruvian furniture. Far from proposing a thorough and exhaustive study, our main objective will be to resolve the questions raised by the historiography and to rethink the problematic of these pieces in the commercial interaction of the two viceroyalties.
