Abstract
In this article, we propose a reading from which Marx's philosophy shows us that to be free, individuals, need to live in a society that realizes the extension of free time by applying a criterion of justice that gives to each according to their needs and demands from each only according to their possibilities. This is a type of justice that capitalism cannot provide and that only a communist society, having freed itself from the need to generate surplus value, can produce. Thus, only under a regime of collective ownership of the means of production would it be possible to realize authentic human freedom.
