Abstract

Some aspects of the life and work of sculptor Pedro Muñoz from Azuaga, Spain, are known: his important artistic career developed in the city of Los Reyes (Lima) during the first half of the seventeenth century. Certain details from Muñoz¿s life and some features his work in particular connect him to the excellent Spanish sculptor Gregorio Fernández (1576-1636); a significant fact given that the status of sculpture in Lima at the time was dominated by a strong trend towards the Seville school, led by the great sculptor Juan Martínez Montañés.
