Abstract

This work includes three new zoomorphic stone Iberian sculptures which represent bovines. They come from different sites in the valley of the Guadajoz river, in the eastern farmland of the province of Cordova. Despite the lack of archaeological context these sculptures, unique in their kind, testify to the existence of an important sculptural pole situated in the Baena-Nueva Carteya area which has provided numerous representations of lions and bulls. The latter are likely to have had a funerary purpose as integral parts of monumental tombs even though in one specific case the sculpture might have belonged to a monument of a different type.
