Abstract
The contemporary city is built under concepts related to technological development and climate change. These conceptions are influencing the building of cities, being necessary to know the spaces that rise up. The aim is to identify and describe the public spaces that are built, focus on their objectives, functions, users and impacts. Exploratory qualitative research is carried out, with the city of Barcelona as a case study. We use participant observation, interviews and documentary review along years from 2012 to 2016. Finding that built spaces seek to promote social interaction for innovation and experiment with technology, these spaces contribute to the construction of political-economic system and are aimed at a reduced group of users, which is not heterogeny.
