Emblematizando América: el Nuevo Mundo en la literatura emblemática hispana.

Abstract

La etapa descubridora más portentosa que ha vivido la humanidad gracias al descubrimiento de América por parte de la monarquía hispánica a finales del siglo XV, consagró una nueva forma de ver el mundo en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad, tanto a nivel político y económico como en el social y cultural. En este contexto, surge también la literatura emblemática como una de las manifestaciones principales de la cultura humanística europea, que se benefició de los conocimientos que ofrecía el Nuevo Mundo en todas sus vertientes. El presente trabajo constituye una aproximación al estudio iconográfico e iconológico de aquellos emblemas hispanos que hacen referencia al recién descubierto continente, con el objetivo de demostrar la trascendencia del hallazgo más importante de la Edad Moderna.

The most wondrous age of discovery known to humanity initiated after the colonization of America by the Spanish crown at the end of XVth century; with this, a new way of seeing the world impacted all areas of society, both at a political and economic level as well as social and cultural levels. In this context, the emblematic literature emerges as one of the main manifestations of European humanistic culture, which benefited from the knowledge offered by the New World in all its aspects. The present work constitutes an approximation to the iconographic and iconological study of Hispanic emblems that refer to the newly discovered continent, with the aim of demonstrating the importance of the most significant finding of the Modern Age.
