Abstract

In this paper we will compile the graphical and written sources that, from the Middle Ages until well into the 20th century, remain about the amphitheatre in Italics. We will initiate this tour commenting on the first descriptions in which the poor relevance of the building is hinted, to finish with an analysis not only of the results obtained in the archaeological excavations that have been effected, but also of the progressive importance that it has been acquiring during the last centuries. In the same way, we will make reference to the main causes of its deterioration, mainly the extraction of its factory for the accomplishment of other constructions, together with the reasons that caused its abandon, and the lack of maintenance that it has presented for centuries.
