Abstract
This article develops the concept of platform gentrification as a structural transformation in the production of urban inequalities under platform capitalism. Building on the four classical dimensions of gentrification—capital reinvestment, the arrival of higher-status groups, urban landscape transformation, and displacement—the paper reinterprets them through the logic of the "on-demand city." Within this paradigm, digital rental, transport, social media, and coworking platforms mediate and valorize urban life, reshaping accumulation dynamics, neighborhood aesthetics, and forms of exclusion. Rather than introducing a new typology, platform gentrification is proposed as a critical framework for understanding how algorithmic mediation and data-driven infrastructures generate new urban hierarchies and anticipate both physical and symbolic displacement in highly digitalized environments.
