La gráfica rupestre en el norte de los estados de Veracruz y de Hidalgo. Implicaciones culturales de un ámbito de fronteras cambiantes

Abstract

La zona al noreste del estado de Hidalgo y al noroeste de Veracruz tiene una topografía escarpada y un gradiente clima ́tico diverso, que supuso una disponibilidad de recursos y una presencia humana casi ininterrumpida desde el Pleistoceno terminal hasta la actualidad. Esta zona se ubica en la frontera entre el Señorío independiente de Metztitlán, la región huasteca y el imperio mexica y se caracteriza por una estructura multiétnica, que contribuyeron a enriquecer el acervo de gráficas rupestres desde el Arcaico tardío hasta la colonia.

The area north-east of the state of Hidalgo and north-west of Veracruz has a rugged topography and a varied climatic gradient, which has meant almost uninterrupted resource availability and human presence from the end of the Pleistocene to the present day. Located on the border between the independent lordship of Metzitlán, the Huastec region and the Mexica Empire, this area is characterised by a multiethnic structure that has contributed to the enrichment of the rock art corpus from the Late Archaic to the Colonial period.
