Abstract
The rise of ICTs and the increase in the elderly population has brought into debate the way in which these two situations are interrelated, where the increase in new technologies has generated a digital divide among the elderly. This is why public policies have put on the table the problems that this entails by perpetuating the risk of social exclusion in this age group, which, backed by numerous studies, has shown that the use of new technologies has numerous benefits, including an increase in self-esteem. This research has sought to confirm this reality in the context of the Prodean Social Centre's digital skills workshops, showing that the users of the workshops have indeed benefited from learning new technologies and confirming an increase in self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as greater well-being and personal development.
