Abstract
El franquismo contra Álvaro Retana, de José Martínez Rubio, es un estudio exhaustivo sobre la represión sufrida por el escritor y dibujante Álvaro Retana durante la dictadura franquista. A través de un riguroso análisis de fuentes primarias, como expedientes de censura e informes policiales, el autor reconstruye el proceso de silenciamiento que marginó a Retana por su obra transgresora y su identidad vinculada a sexualidades disidentes. Este ensayo reivindica, de este modo, la figura de Retana como un símbolo de resistencia cultural, rescatando su legado dentro de una historiografía que tradicionalmente lo ha relegado al olvido.
El franquismo contra Álvaro Retana, by José Martínez Rubio, is a thorough study of the repression suffered by writer and illustrator Álvaro Retana under Franco’s dictatorship. Through a rigorous analysis of primary sources, such as censorship records and police reports, the author reconstructs the silencing process that marginalized Retana due to his transgressive work and his identity linked to dissident sexualities. This essay reclaims Retana’s figure as a symbol of cultural resistance, rescuing his legacy within a historiography that has traditionally consigned him to oblivion.
