Abstract
We analyze the huge cargo of "Species of Nature and Art", made by the Bishop of Trujillo Baltasar Jaime Martínez Compañón in 1789, to the Royal Cabinet of Natural History founded by King Carlos III of Spain. In the freight, with more than 1200 units and thousands of inventoried samples, traveled not only pieces of art from the chimu culture of northern Peru, but also a wide variety of products, such as minerals, dried birds and plants, woods, natural foods and seeds, as well as a wide variety of medicinal herbs and medical prescriptions applied since time immemorial by indigenous inhabitants.
