Abstract
As is well known, in the Hadrian’s Villa near Tivoli, originality is the protagonist of the architecture, it inspired and financed by the emperor, and it is not surprising in such a context the widespread presence of highly experimental forms and construction techniques. Concrete vaulted are the experimental objects best known to the public: new shapes arecreated, slender proportions absent in the previous architecture, and minimal wall thicknessesto support complex inertial systems.Innovative technical solutions are sought, or techniques already known but used in the past only in specific cases are used, all with the aim of materializing particular visual images and to obtain the static balance that would allow their existence.
