Abstract
El hecho de que la región histórica de Camagüey llegara a convertirse en el territorio azucarero por excelencia del país, obliga a realizar un análisis a grandes rasgos, del comportamiento de la industria azucarera en la antigua provincia: inicio, desarrollo y auge; en el que se visualice además, otros elementos asociados a ella como el ferrocarril, la lucha de los obreros y colonos para obtener sus demandas y beneficios; así como el papel predominante de los monopolios norteamericanos en su control.
The fact that the historical region of Camaguey became the countrys territory par excellence, requires a broad analysis of the behavior of sugar industry in the old province: beginning, development and boom; in which it also visualizes other elements associated with it such as the railroad, the struggle of de workers and settlers to obtain their demands and benefits, as well as the predominant role of the north american monopolies in their control.
