Abstract
The prominent role of the female components of the Hispanic aristocracy in the patronage artistic of the Modern Age, is evident in the Ducal House of Medina Sidonia during the sixteenth century with Mrs. Ana de Aragón and Mrs. Leonor Manrique de Sotomayor, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Their total assumption of ideals with those of the lineage, will determine a thoughtful and determined constructive programming and patronage over the arts. Activity shown not only in the private and religious domestic architecture, with conventual foundations and patronage of their artistic and cultic trousseaus, related to their feminine condition due to their devotional character, but in an expensive and thoughtful military construction programming as an instrument of control of the territory and dominance, used together as an emblem of power and prestige.
