Abstract
Este trabajo presenta las evidencias de camélidos sudamericanos en el arte rupestre de la Puna de Argentina para el período comprendido entre 900 dC y el siglo XVI. Los camélidos han tenido múltiples valoraciones para las poblaciones prehispánicas de la región moldeando la reproducción sociocultural y biológica de estas sociedades. El arte rupestre contribuye a reflexionar sobre la relación humano-camélido en el largo plazo. Se presentará en detalle el caso de Barrancas (Dept. de Cochinoca, Jujuy, Argentina), un reservorio excepcional de arte rupestre en el cual el 60% de los motivos pintados y grabados son camélidos lo que atestigua su importancia.
This chapter presents the evidence of South American camelids in the rock art of the Puna of Argentina for the period between AD 900 and the 16th century. The camelids have had multiple valuation for the pre-Hispanic populations of the region shaping sociocultural and biological reproduction of these societies. Rock art contributes to think over the human-animal relationship in the long term. The case of Barrancas (Dept. de Cochinoca, Jujuy, Argentina), an exceptional reservoir of rock art in which 60% of the painted and engravings are camelids, will be presented in detail.
