Abstract
Through a series of previously unpublished works by José Arpa belonging to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Seville, we delve into the evolution and aesthetic exchanges between his formative years in Seville and Rome and his stay in Puebla. In this selection of works, all of them created in Mexico, we see a multidisciplinary artist who is well-versed in the latest tastes and trends that he brings to America from Europe. Not only does it look at his traditional portraits or his famous landscapes, but also lesser-known aspects of his production, such as architectural projects like the apse of the Spanish Charity Hospital, or allegorical works that exalt the figure of Porfirio Díaz.
