Desde el río Nilo hasta el océano Atlántico: El periplo más lejano de la diosa Isis y su culto

Abstract

Pese a sus orígenes egipcios, la diosa Isis y su culto terminarían difundiéndose a lo largo y ancho del Imperio romano, alcanzando un grado de extensión bastante amplio pese a que nunca se trató de una religión mayoritaria. Su campo de acción no se limitó a lo que hemos venido a llamar ¿mundo mediterráneo¿, sino que, al igual que las propias fronteras del imperio forjado por la Ciudad Eterna, no quedó restringido a los confines del Mare Nostrum. Dentro de esta ¿expansiñn atlántica¿, resulta de lo más llamativo el caso de las islas británicas, y por ello se le dedicará un apartado en exclusiva. En resumidas cuentas, trazaremos un itinerario desde el río Nilo hasta el océano Atlántico para acompañar a la diosa Isis en su periplo más lejano.Despite its Egyptian origins, the goddess Isis and her cult would end up spreading throughout the Roman Empire, reaching a fairly large extent despite the fact that it was never a majority religion.
