Abstract
Desde la década de 1880 hasta inicios del siglo XX, se desarrolló en la prensa judeoespañola del Imperio otomano un intenso debate en torno a la lengua que debía servir como vehículo de comunicación y cultura en las comunidades sefardíes. En el marco de esta polémica, la prensa se constituyó en el principal espacio de confrontación entre distintas corrientes ideológicas, en el que editoriales, artículos y cartas expresaron posturas divergentes acerca del futuro del judeoespañol frente a otras lenguas. Este artículo examina las estrategias retóricas empleadas en dichas controversias, centrándose en un recurso específico: la integración de relatos y narrativas colectivas dentro de los textos como medio de persuasión, a partir del análisis de los artículos de Jacques Danon y Shmuel Saadi Halevi, publicados en los años 1902-1903 en el periódico La Époka.
From the 1880s to the early 20th century, an intense public debate unfolded in the Judeo-Spanish press of the Ottoman Empire concerning which language should serve as the vehicle of communication and culture in Sephardic communities. Within the framework of this controversy, the press became the main arena for confrontation among different ideological currents, in which editorials, articles, and letters expressed divergent positions regarding the future of Judeo-Spanish vis-à-vis other languages. This article examines the rhetorical strategies employed in these controversies, focusing on a specific device: the integration of narratives and collective storytelling into the texts as a means of persuasion, based on an analysis of articles by Jacques Danon and Shmuel Saadi Halevi, published in 1902–1903 in the newspaper La Époka.
