Controversias socioeconómicas sobre la tecnología: ¿Una nueva onda larga expansiva gracias a la revolución digital?

Abstract

¿Merece la IV Revolución industrial el status que se le confiere? ¿La revolución digital está promoviendo una nueva etapa de prosperidad económica? ¿Qué supone para la organización del trabajo y el empleo? Hacemos un repaso selectivo de las diferentes posturas más significativas sobre la tecnología. Tomando el marco teórico y perspectiva de la teoría de las ondas largas de acumulación, sugerida por Ernest Mandel, tratamos de responder a estas preguntas. A la luz de la evolución de la acumulación, la rentabilidad o la productividad, y considerando los límites biofísicos con los que se está topando el productivismo industrial, se plantean dudas sobre la inauguración, a escala mundial, de una nueva onda larga expansiva a causa de esta revolución digital.

Does the Fourth Industrial Revolution deserve the status it is given? Is the digital revolution promoting a new stage of economic prosperity? What does it mean for the organisation of work and employment? We make a selective review of the different most significant positions on technology. The theory of the long waves of accumulation, suggested by Ernest Mandel, is the theoretical framework which we try to answer these questions from. The inauguration, on a world scale, of a new expansionary long wave due to of this digital revolution is in question, in light of the evolution of accumulation, profitability or productivity, and considering the biophysical limits that industrial productivism is encountering.
