Abstract

The complex relationship between Sanlúcar and Doñana had a particular historical connection with the Ducal House of Medina Sidonia. The dukes developed their perception about the uses of this biotope. We exemplify this development with the analyzed documentation of three dukes and three key dates, 1615, 1624 and 1789. These documents include the beginning detachment, the improvement of the space for hunting use, the concretion of the place as a lavish scenographic framework to entertain a royal visit and the systematised exploitation fostered by the eighteenth-century enlightened movement.
