Abstract

The archaeological excavations that were carried out between 1992 and 1999 in the area of the forum of the Roman city of Empúries have allowed us to document its architectural development more precisely. The new evidence shows the existence in this area of a large field of silos that were in use from the 2nd century BC, and particularly during the 1st century BC, up until their definitive abandonment as a result of the architectural systematization of the forum in the Augustan period. This article analyses some of the pottery contexts provided by the fitting of different silos, successively filled in throughout the period during which this large installation for storing grain was in function.
