El impulso artístico de Catalina Fernández de Córdoba: una mujer de entereza en el siglo XVI.

Abstract

El presente artículo estudia las empresas arquitectónicas llevadas a cabo por doña Catalina Fernández de Córdoba, II marquesa de Priego, en su señorío. Se trata de una figura importante para entender la historia moderna en la provincia de Córdoba. Su biografía se encontraba dispersa y con este estudio se han recopilado todos esos datos y se han añadido citas documentales importantes. De esta manera se ha conseguido compilar en un solo título toda su trayectoria. Sus proyectos comenzaron por terminar las obras inacabadas de su padre y por realizar muchas otras de iniciativa propia. Gracias a ella, la totalidad de los pueblos que componían su marquesado fueron renovados y modernizados. Entre ellos destaca el convento de Santa Clara de Montilla o el puente sobre el Genil del pueblo de Puente Genil.

This article studies the architectural undertakings carried out by Catalina Fernández of Córdoba, II marquis of Priego, in her state. She is a key figure in understanding modern history in the province of Cordoba. Accounts of her biography were dispersed but this study has recovered its data and has included important documentary citations. In this way, we are able to compile her entire career in a single title. Her projects began by finishing her father ́s unfinished works and by carrying out many others of her own initiative. Thanks to this, all of the towns that made up the marquisate were renovated and modernized. Among them, notable examples include the Convent of Montilla and the Genil bridge in the town of Puente Genil.
