Abstract
Los solares, como se les conoce en la Península de Yucatán, es considerado como un sistema agroforestal y son los espacios cercanos o que rodean a la casa habitación. En ellos encontramos una gran diversidad de especies de plantas, entre árboles maderables y no maderables, frutales, plantas de ornato, cultivos agrícolas a pequeña escala, animales domésticos de importancia alimenticia o de ornato. La conformación y diseño de los solares mayas es única en el mundo, existen espacios destinados para la recreación, la siembra de cultivos, un área destinada a la cría de animales e inclusive la construcción de silos para guardar semillas de autoconsumo. Generalmente, los solares son manejados por mujeres, la jefa de la familia, y es ella quien mantiene y organiza estos espacios que proveen de alimentos y la convivencia familiar. Los productos o subproductos obtenidos del solar son principalmente de autoconsumo, los excedentes son comercializados de manera local. Es así, como estos espacios contribuyen a solventar los requerimientos alimenticios que los integrantes de las familias necesitan para su nutrición, por lo que se hace necesario su revaloración en las políticas públicas de la región.
The solares, as they are known in the Yucatan Peninsula, are considered an agroforestry system as spaces that are near or surrounding the home. They have a great diversity of plant species, including timber and non-timber trees, fruit trees, ornamental plants, small-scale agricultural crops, and domestic animals of nutritional or ornamental importance. The conformation and design of the Mayan solares is unique in the world, there are spaces intended for recreation, planting crops, an area for raising animals and even the construction of silos to store seeds for self-consumption. Generally, solares are managed by women, the head of the family, and it is she who maintains and organizes these spaces that provide food and family coexistence. The products or by-products obtained from the solar are mainly for self-consumption, the surpluses are sold locally. Thus, these spaces contribute to meeting the food requirements that family members need for their nutrition, which is why their revaluation in the public policies of the region is necessary.
