¿Invisibilidad o censura? La ausencia de las mujeres fuertes del Antiguo Testamento en la pintura barroca española (1563-1700).

Abstract

En el presente estudio se pretende destacar una ausencia femenina en concreto: la de las mujeres fuertes del Antiguo Testamento en la pintura española, desde el final del Concilio de Trento hasta comienzos del siglo XVIII; así como explicar los posibles motivos de dicho vacío iconográfico, desde diversas perspectivas: político-religiosa, científica, moral y artística, con el fin de demostrar cómo en dicha omisión el género actúa como dispositivo de control que articula las relaciones de poder y la producción cultural en una sociedad concreta.

This study aims to highlight a particular lack of women's representation: that of the strong women of the Old Testament in the Spanish painting from the end of the Council of Trent to the beginning of the eighteenth century. In addition, we will explain the possible reasons for this iconographic absence, from different perspectives: political-religious, scientific, moral, and artistic, in order to demonstrate how in this omission of gender acts as a control device that articulates the development of power relationships and cultural production in a particular society.
