Abstract

The South of the old Kingdom of Valencia experienced an event that marked its historical development, the pastoral segregation of its territory from the Diocese of Cartagena and the creation in 1564 of the Diocese of Orihuela. This period known by historiography as ¿the lawsuit of the bishopric¿ was reflected in art from different creations that had a political and propagandistic purpose. In this work, the visual image that these elements gave to the Gothic temples of the city of Orihuela is analyzed, significantly to its Cathedral, an aspect that helps to understand the identity of the ancient inhabitants of the Valencian south.
