Abstract
En los últimos años, la trayectoria del maestro Antonio de Torres ha sido puesta de relieve a raíz del análisis de su obra con motivo de recientes publicaciones y exposiciones temporales sobre la pintura novohispana del siglo XVIII. Sin embargo, la vasta producción guadalupana que llevó a cabo en exclusiva para el mercado indiano peninsular ha pasado completamente desapercibida. Este fenómeno pone de manifiesto la demanda alcanzada por parte de unos comitentes conocedores del prestigio adquirido en la ejecución del género devocional. Tanto es así que a raíz de la abundancia de copias autografiadas, la crítica local haya especulado sobre una hipotética estancia de Torres en España.
During the last years, the career of master Antonio de Torres has been highlighted from the analysis of his work on the occasion of recent publications and temporary exhibitions about the eigthteenth century painting in New Spain. However, the vast guadalupanian output carried out exclusively for the peninsular "indiano" trade has gone completely unnoticed. This phenomenon exposes the demand reached by some knowledgeable contracting of the prestige acquired in the realization of the devotional genre. So much so that following the abundance of autographed copies, local criticism has speculated on a hypothetical stay of Torres in Spain.
