Mulieres religiosae en la Lima virreinal: Rosa de Lima y el círculo rosaliano (1614-1625): influencias y producción escrita.

Abstract

Lima, capital del virreinato del Perú, fue durante los siglos XVI y XVII un foco de atracción de religiosidad. En estos años una gran cantidad de personas de fe vivieron en esta ciudad, desarrollando su actividad y sus experiencias espirituales. Las mujeres constituyeron el eje central de buena parte de este proceso, especialmente, las beatas. La importancia de ese movimiento es innegable en la sociedad limeña de la época y sus impactó fue tan grande que llegó hasta la beatificación de la primera americana. Varias de esas mujeres terminaron teniendo problemas con el Santo Oficio, pero a pesar de ello, dejando una huella impronta imborrable en esa sociedad. Este trabajo quiere ser una aproximación a la importancia del papel que desempeñaron estas mujeres en el desarrollo social y religioso de la Lima virreinal.

Lima, the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru, was a centre of religious attraction during the 16th and 17th centuries. During these years, a large number of people of faith lived in this city, developing their spiritual activities and experiences. Women were at the centre of much of this process, especially the beatas. The importance of this movement is undeniable in Lima society at the time, and its impact was so great that it led to the beatification of the first American woman. Several of these women ended up having problems with the Inquisition, but despite this, they left an indelible mark on that society. This work aims to provide an insight into the important role these women played in the social and religious development of viceregal Lima.
