Abstract
The Wirikuta Desert is one of the sacred places of the Wixárika community, representing part of their worldview, culture, and history. However, this territory has suffered environmental and cultural repercussions due to various factors, such as the large-scale mining activity that was established there in 2011. Large-scale mining, or mega mining, is carried out through mega-projects aimed at extracting and exploiting natural mineral resources. Nevertheless, it is essential to deeply analyze the social and cultural repercussions that have arisen from these practices in territories considered sacred and part of the living history of Indigenous peoples.
