Art and archives in a systemic perspective and holistic vision of information

Abstract

The main purpose of this theoretical reflection is to understand art and archives as information sources within a systemic and holistic approach. The paper explores the value of a systemic and holistic approach within information systems for integrated and total knowledge. For the proposed theoretical reflection, the archive and art collection of the Venerable Third Order of Penance of St. Francis of Coimbra (Portugal), dating from the seventeenth to the twentieth century, will be used to illustrate this perspective.

El objetivo principal de esta reflexión teórica es entender el arte y los archivos como fuentes de información dentro de un enfoque sistémico y holístico. En este trabajo se potencia el valor de un enfoque sistémico y holístico en los sistemas de información para un conocimiento integrado y total. Para la reflexión teórica propuesta, utilizamos el archivo y la colección de arte de la Venerable Orden Tercera de la Penitencia de San Francisco de Coimbra (Portugal), de los siglos XVII al XX, para ilustrar nuestro punto de vista.
