Abstract

In a context of economic growth, war and drought in rural Buenos Aires during the first half of the nineteenth century, this article analyses, on the one hand, the tensions that took place in the farms between peons and employers, and on the other, the contradictions between State authorities and labor employers, who competed for the same resource: manpower.
