Un estudio de la competitividad exportadora de los principales productos mineros peruanos (2010-2019)

Abstract

La exportación de minerales contribuye en gran proporción a la economía peruana, permitiéndole el desarrollo de varios sectores. El objetivo de esta investigación es identificar el comportamiento de los cinco principales productos mineros de exportación peruana y comparar los resultados con el de los principales países exportadores a fin de determinar su nivel de competitividad. Para ello, se utilizó una modificación a la matriz de la competitividad de la CEPAL hecha por Ramón y Lacayo el 2007, complementado con los indicadores RCA, ICTB y PCE; los datos fueron obtenidos para el periodo de 2010 a 2019 del ITC-Trade Map. Como resultados, se evidenció un alto grado de especialización y competitividad en todos los productos mineros peruanos evaluados. Cobre, la categoría con el más alto nivel de ventaja comparativa y la segunda con la mayor tasa de crecimiento, es el principal producto de exportación, aportando más de 25% de los ingresos por exportación. Oro, la segunda categoría con mayor tasa de competitividad, ha reducido dicho nivel en el periodo. Cinc y Cobre Refinado tienen altos niveles de especialización, aunque su competitividad está en decrecimiento. Finalmente, la categoría Hierro es la que menos competitividad evidenció, pero con una tasa de crecimiento superior a las demás.

The export of minerals contributes in great proportion to the Peruvian economy, allowing the development of different sectors. The main objective of this research is to identify the behavior of the five main Peruvian export mining products and compare the results with the main exporting countries in order to determine their level of competitiveness. For this, a modification to the CEPAL competitiveness matrix made by Ramón and Lacayo in 2007 was used, complemented with the RCA, ICTB and PCE indicators; the data were obtained for the period from 2010 to 2019 from ITC-Trade Map. As a result, a high degree of specialization and competitiveness was evidenced in all evaluated Peruvian mining products. Copper, the category with the highest level of comparative advantage and thesecond with the highest growth rate, is the main export product contributing more than 25% of export earnings. Gold, the second category with the highest competitiveness rate, has reduced this level in the period. Zinc and Refined Copper has high levels of specialization, however, its competitiveness is on the decline. Finally, the Iron category is the one that showed the least competitiveness, but with a higher growth rate than the others.
